HD Fury for PS3

We received word tonight from the folks over at www.HDFury.com of their new HDFury digital to analog converter with built-in HDCP stripper! A/V enthusiasts will LOVE this device, as it decrypts HDCP-encrypted images for use on non-HDCP compliant TVs.

Aside from the HD Fury features and specifications detailed below, the Team was nice enough to provide us with an exclusive Sneak Peak for those interested, and let us know production is underway with a target release date of May 1, 2007.

It’s also important to NOTE that both the PS3 and HDFury (among other HDMI source/receivers) utilize an HDMI transmitter from Silicon Image, and although they state it’s far superior to CP262 (and completely out of comparison with components) we’re told the proof is coming- including full side-by-side comparision pictures and videos!

Ps3 Is Fighting Back At Xbox Live And they May Just Win…..

IDC says the Wii will outship and outsell the Xbox 360 and PS3

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), the Nintendo Wii will outship and outsell the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 in 2007 and 2008. They said that the Xbox 360 sold so well in 2006 because it had a full year lead in the market. The battle between the 360 and the PS3 are both heating up as they fight for the top spot by making all of their gaming towards the hardcore gamer unlike what the Wii is attracting. The Wii is trying to broaden it’s consumer market by attracting people that don’t game on a usual basis. IDC suspects that shipments of the Wii will capture a little more than a third of the worldwide market by the first quarter of ’08.

Billy Pidgeon, a program manager of IDC’s Consumer Markets: Gaming program says, “With the Wii, Nintendo is abdicating the specification war, leaving Sony and Microsoft to slug it out between themselves for the hardcore market. We believe concerted efforts to broaden the appeal of videogames beyond the traditional enthusiast/hardcore base will deepen the industry’s penetration. This is good news for an industry that seemed to be receding last year due to over-saturation of the core base.”

PS3 Price Cut Won’t Happen For Years!

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

Playstation 3

Yeah you heard right, Dow Jones reported that the PS3 will not likely be cutting it’s prices for maybe 2 years! Ouch, that is a real punch in the face for us bargain gamers and we already know that the PS3 isn’t doing so hot right out of the box. I guess it’s safe to say that the people at Sony are just money greedy warlords.

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)–The new videogame-console war is firmly underway and Sony Corp.’s (SNE) PlayStation 3 looks like it is losing its once-dominant position in the $25 billion industry.

The Playstation 3 is still going to go as already planned with adding movies and music to the Playstations store. They had a lot of fans from the PS2 going to the PS3 so they aren’t too worried about losing any hardcore dedicated fans. Some gamers don’t worry too much about the cost just as long as they have a good gaming experience.

Although analysts say price reductions would benefit PS3 sales, Sony isn’t likely to make any price cuts for at least another two years, said Kimberly Otzman, a spokeswoman for Sony Computer Entertainment America. She noted a similar time frame for lowered prices for the PS2. “We probably expect the same for PS3,” Otzman said, adding that while the console’s price is higher than competitors’, it comes completely packaged so consumers don’t have to buy extra equipment or attachments.” Meanwhile, Sony has said it is looking into expanding into music and movie downloads via the PS3, which comes equipped with the new high-definition DVD format – called Blu-ray.

SONY SONG: “HOW TO KILL A BRAND”

Monday, February 26th, 2007

You know that sappy The Fray “How to Save a Life” song that’s replaced Vitamin C’s “Friends Forever” song as the most annoying high school song ever? The one that starts off with “Step 1 you say we need to talk,” followed by step 2 of you turning your TV/Radio off? Yeah, that one. Well a Sony hater took the tune from that song and made up his own Sony slamming lyrics to go along with the melody. It’s good to finally see a gaming music video that’s calm and serious instead of just a bunch of white rapping dudes who figured out that Wii, PS3, and 360 all rhyme with each other.

Using a slideshow of images, YouTube user heavyarms117 shows typical PS3 price arguments and attacks their online services. He even goes all Brian Flemming on Sony’s Phil Harrison by displaying old quotes with new audio to show how Sony’s lies built up quicker than the typical bullshit you’d get from Nintendo or Microsoft. Add some Blu-ray low blows and the condemning of Killzone 1 and 2, and you’ve got yourself something I’d play on the radio. This is exactly why Nintendo said they weren’t competing with PS3 and 360, letting Sony go solo in the race for the best console in the world was the smartest decision they’ve made in years.

Playstation 3 Store Weekly Updates #1

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

It seems that Sony has been active this week adding the latest updates to their Playstation store. They have added two highly anticipated games up for grabs today; one being the calming flOw, and the other being the puzzler Qbert.

flOw is a game about piloting an aquatic organism through a surreal biospehere where players consume other organisms, evolve, and dive into the abyss. It features up to 4 player multiplayer, and it available at full 1080p resolution. This game is truly a calming experience for the PS3, combined with surround sound it just boggles my mind. It seems to have used Sixaxis fully as well, but how it is used, i currently do not know. This game is selling for $7.99

Qbert on the other hand is an 80’s classic retro acrcade game. Qbert a colorful noser is now available on the PS3 with high definition, and is sure to be fun for the retro gamer. Score points by hopping around the pyramid and changing the cube colors, but keep an eye out for the springy nemesis, Coily, and his friends. This game is selling for $4.99.

They have also released two demos for the Ps3 users to try out; these being Ridge Racer 7 and Full Auto 2: Battlelines.

Ridge Racer 7, and Full Auto 2: Battlelines are games that were released in the past and are truly great games. If you hesitated to buy the games due to not knowing how they are these demos are a great test.

Mercenaries 2 announced for XB360, PC, PS3, & PS2

Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

Mercenaries 2: World In Flames was previously announced for the PS3, but Pandemic has added that it will now also be coming out for the Xbox 360, PC, and PS2.

Mercenaries 2

IGN had an exclusive interview with Pandemic’s senior producer Jonathan Zamkoff.

IGN: Just to put things in context so that you know what kind of fan I am of Mercenaries, I reviewed the original game and worked closely with LucasArts on it, and I’m really looking forward to the sequel. I’m also aware of the back-story of Mercenaries, the first time around.

Jonathan Zamkoff: OK…

IGN: As in, you know, how the first Mercenaries was originally contracted with EA as a Strike series game. How Pandemic and EA eventually didn’t agree to work on the first game together, and how Pandemic went independent with a different game that LucasArts ended up signing and publishing. So…

Jonathan Zamkoff: so, you’re steeped in Mercenaries lore.

IGN: (Laughter). Yes, I guess you could say that.

Jonathan Zamkoff: Then you know it’s been quite a wild ride for us.

IGN: Yes, so it’s funny and ironic that Pandemic is working with EA again on Mercenaries 2.

Jonathan Zamkoff: Yes, very much so. Obviously, this time around the deal is slightly different. We’re feeling much more on equal footing with EA, which is really exciting for Pandemic. EA is a monster in terms of distribution, quality assurance, and really helping getting the game in the channels. And creatively, Pandemic retains the rights to the IP, so this time around we’re on equal footing and I know both sides are very excited about working together with this type of relationship.

IGN: It seems like it a good deal for you guys. But I’m curious: Why would a publisher, any publisher, want to agree to a deal where they didn’t retain the intellectual property to the game they’re publishing? You know, the publisher loses a level of control and they don’t make as much money on it without those rights, or at least that’s the way most publishing deals have been written up to this point. Maybe this one is different?

Jonathan Zamkoff: You know, honestly I ‘m not really sure of the minds of the EA executive that signed this. Mercenaries, across the board, has the buzz that it’s going to be a top ten title on the PS3 and on the Xbox 360 as well. You know, I don’t know for sure, but I think that EA is looking to get a big, open-world game like Mercenaries under its belt that they are proud and excited about. So that’s the biggest leverage we have. We’re coming in with the best-selling original IP of 2005, everybody across the board feels we have made massive improvements to the game for next-gen, and I just think it’s the type of game and the quality of game that, even though they don’t retain the IP, I think that EA wants to have a stake in Mercenaries 2. There really is no one bigger and better to handle a game in the publishing world than EA. They’re the juggernauts of the publishing world. We have a lot of faith in their marketing.

Sony proud of PSP & PS3 sales for January

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Well it looks like our dear sony is Very proud of there sale for the PSP and ps3 i am starting to beleave that the PS3 is better than the Xbox360. Accordingly, the Wii is leading the pack, followed closely by the Xbox 360, and it looks like the PS3 is not far behind as well. Despite that, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) reported that it’s very pleased with all its consoles performance.

SCEA even mentioned that January 2007 is in fact a record month for the PlayStation business. Hardware and software sales revenue for PS3, PSP, and PS2 in North America alone totalled US$ 550 million. SCEA added,

Although we still saw supply constraints at retail for PS3, we did sell a strong 243,554 according to NPD data. Tie ratios for PS3 have improved by 80% since launch and should continue to climb with the release of the much anticipated MotorStorm from SCEA and Virtua Fighter 5 from Sega.

Aside from the impressive showing by the console, SCEA pointed out as well that good things are headed towards PSP’s way:

PSP had a very good January, with hardware sales up 20% year over year, selling 210,719. PSP is closing the gap on the leading competitor, off just over 10% in total sales for the month. PSP software sales should see a boost as well this month, with the release of the critically-acclaimed Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters.

Lastly, SCEA promised fans that it will shift its focus on marketing from here on, especially now that supply levels are stabilizing.
