Maxtor's usually suck hard. I've never had any luck with a Maxtor. Between crashing and being extremely uneasy to work with, I switched to Seagate.

However, you have a Maxtor so that is beside the point. Check this site out, http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list. Just type in the drive serial number and it will tell you what others found out.

As far as this one goes, 3 people have tried and failed. You have to leave room for human error though. I say try anyways and we'll help you out with it.

Well really it shouldn't make much difference on what your dashboard is. It never has for me. If you run into problems just hit one of us up.

well as SatanX listed above, theres a list of compatible HDs for the XB (.:props:. SatanX).
http://xboxdrives.x-pec.com/?p=list

and yeah ull have to mod the new drive using XBOXHDM, follow this great tut by Boost ---> LINK.

QUESTION OF MY OWn <<<<<

as far as the stock HD of the XB is concerned, is it an SATA or EIDE. if it is an SATA and i bought an EIDE (or vice versa) can i still hook up the purchased HD and have it running all good?

Well the Xbox is IDE so I guess you could try buying a SATA 2 EIDE cable if it exists. I have never tried it but good question.
