Well lets start off with Pros

Softmod Pros -
1. don't have to open xbox to Mod

2. if you mess it up you can restore C:& E: and start over (As long as you Backup befor installing softmod)

3. Fast, easy, and 99.9% safe

there are alot more but them are just Some

Hard Mod Pros -
1. you can trun off/On with just a flick of a switch

2. change everything from Xbox bootup anime to Xbox dash sounds

3. don't have to Lock HDD to upgrade Xbox HDD

agin just some of the Pros

Softmod Cons -
1. Must use program like XboxHDm to lock HDD with eeprom (must be lockable HDD)

2. have to find right Game and have AR to Mod

3. No matter how hard i try i can't think of a 3rd Con for softmod

i am sure there are More just not easy to recall

Hard Mod Cons -
1. A miss solder will kill your xbox Makeing it useless (really the Biggist Con of a Mod chip)

2. Flashing the right Bios
(some would say it's Easy and not a Con But.. i have seen it time and time agin where ppl try flashing a bios to there chip and Fry it )

3. forgetting to turn off chip and go on Live (Banned)

there are alot More this is just some

as for what Chip to Buy i would get the X3  as it is the best
