possibly but like I said I don't know what your PC specs are and you might have a motherboard that can support a Dual Core

umm, insanetrout is not correct, p4 to the core2quad to even new xeon's all run on the same socket, lga 775. older pentium 4's did run on socket 478 but were changed to lga 775. It just matters what cpu's your motherboard can support if its a lga 775.

thats not corrent  Just because the mother board has a 775 slot does not mean the mother board can support a high CPU like a Core 2 6700

like my dual core D mother board it has a 775 But it does not support core 2

open the case and you should see it printed on the motherboard it self

it can be a variety of things so i can't even give an example but one of my old ones is PMV800
its clearly printed out

after you have the model you can go to the main website to see what your mobo supports
