Unable to write/transfer to G Drive

I've never run into this issue before so I'm asking if anybody else has run into it. I recently installed a 750GB Seagate into my xbox and I filled the F drive (137 gigs) and I reached about 254 gigs filled on the G drive, and then I wasn't allowed to write anymore.

The xbox is running UnleashX as it's main dash, and XBMC, EvoX and some others are in the apps directory. I'm guessing I caused the error by formatting my G drive through UnleashX because I was too lazy to dig up the method for EvoX/FTP. In the end I think I ended up doing more work because I had to transfer hthe 254 gigs back onto my PC and I'm now formatting the partition through EvoX using zzk's tutorial.

I'm pretty confident that should fix it, but I was curious to see if anybody else stumbled across the same problem, where it basically seems like it reaches a limit and refuses to write anything more to the partition. Also, does anybody know why it does this?

Update:: So I formatted the G partition through EvoX, like I was originally supposed to had I not been lazy, and re-upped the 300 some odd gigs I took off of it. I also transferred above the limit I reached last time to make sure it works and it does.

The moral of the story I suppose, is to not take shortcuts (like formatting through UnleashX instead of doing it through EvoX\FlashFXP) because it will end up being more work in the end. Again, I'm dealing with a 750GB drive and created an issue by just being lazy. If it was a 320 or 400 gig drive, I doubt I'd notice anything wrong because the G partition would be under the 250 gigs I had an issue with.

Actually, scratch that. I ran into the same issue but I did a little more research on it.

Although I'm not overly familiar with cluster size and the like, I found out regular xbox drives have 32K clusters and apparently the 750GB and I think 500GBs need 64K clusters in order for the box to read it properly. Otherwise you end up missing gigs. And like I said before, C, E and F all write perfectly but once I hit a limit on G, it basically stops writing. If I try to transfer a folder it'll say "Directory not found" and if I transfer files, it'll say it transferred but the file is no where to be found.

So what I need to do, I think, is download XBPartitioner and format the drive that way. I think anyways, I haven't finished reading up on it. I was also wondering if maybe it'd be as simple as just a BIOS upgrade, which would save me from having to do the entire drive all over again (and save me from having to back up like 400 gigs worth the stuff again.)

So yeah, I'm open to suggestions if anybody knows a good way of dealing with this. I thought I heard of one of the guys on the channel installing a 750GB in his xbox but I can't remember who or if he had any luck with it. Thanks for the posts, if you have any ideas just shout.

well i know if you have a modchip, which bypasses the xbox's bios, you can run atleast up to a 500gb drive no problem.

we had this problem befor But i can't remeber How we fixed it  i am sure if you do a search on here you could find it =/

i know some seagate 500Gigs are 32K clusters  thats why i get seagate =) as i have a 500G seagate in my xbox with all but 5gigs left =)

I have absolutely zero knowledge on clusters. I had a newb mentality where I figured if I installed it, the gigs would come. I should of known better because that's usually never the way it works with anything, but anyhow, I'll search around the bit a bit and some others and if I end up figuring it out I'll definitely post it here in case anyone else comes across it.

Still open to input though and appreciate any ideas as usual.

well from what i can tell XBpartitioner_1.0 is for Modchip xbox's  BUT it's worth a shot Long as you got your eeprom you should be good

Just make sure you backup your E: and F: as well, i am sure the XBpartitioner_1.0 will delete ALL info on the HDD

Dammit. I downloaded it last night and didn't realize it was for chips. I suppose I could pull my Xenium out of another xbox and put it in the other one but I'm going to see if there's anything else that will format using 32K clusters.

Well I searched around and XBPartitioner looks to be the way to go. I have a chip in another box so I'll finish backing up the F and G drives when I make room (500 gigs, give or take) and then go to it.

From what I can tell, I just burn this to a disk and boot from a CD then commence the formatting. I'll give the NFO a look tomorrow when I get some gigs squared away. Thanks for the link ZZK, I lost the program before I even had a chance to use it.

It's supported but you need to format it with XBPartitioner into 32K clusters. It increases the size of the partitions.
