I want to start modding for LAN parties...please help!

I'm new to modding.  I've been playing halo 2 for quite some time now and am rather skilled.  I recently bought a 360 and did not sell my  Xbox and decided that I should mod it to use for LAN parties.  I have lots of ethernet cables (crossover and straight-through) and a router.  So my questions are:

What programs do I need (I mainly just want to do weapon and vehicle mods)?
Where can I get these?
Is there anything that I need to buy?

I thought I had it figured out earlier today when I had downloaded dot halo but I couldn't connect to my xbox...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need to softmod your Xbox first, then you can FTP which allows you to use dothalo and other programs. There is a tutorial in the Tutorials section.
