Ok here's a tut to softmod your Wii using
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Hack

Required materials:

    * SD card (<= 2GB, not SDHC) formatted as FAT. (The Wii System Menu, which is used to copy the save, only reads SD cards, not SDHC).
    * SD card reader
    * The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (that has been played at least once)
    * Some homebrew to load (e.g. get the Homebrew Channel (http://hbc.hackmii.com/download/))

The Twilight Hack varies from Wii menu system version so
now we need to know what system version your Wii is?
To check this simply go to the Wii Options--> Wii Settings
And on the TOP RIGHT Hand side it should say what version your system menu is at

See mines at ver. 3.1U so i used the Twilight Hack v0.1-beta1.zip

So for people on Wii System Version(s) 3.3 and earlier Download this version of Twilight Hack

And for the Wii System 3.4 Users download this one

SORRY Wii 4.0 USERS ARE OUT OF LUCK.... FOR NOW ;)

Now lets check what disc you have. Because inside the zip file you will find versions of the hack for all three regions. You may copy all of them to your SD card, but you will need to choose the correct one to copy to your Wii based on your version of Zelda: Twilight Princess. USA users, additionally, need to determine the correct save slot to load once inside Twilight Princess. The easiest way to check your version is to compare the text string which is on the inner circle of the data surface with the ones below.

So that means IF you have "RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN" disc use the hack save folder "RZDE" and load that in to your Wii game Saves, and boot the "TwilightHack0" Save Slot.

See, for disc "RVL-RZDE-0A-0 JPN", you'll boot "Twilight Hack0"

So find your inner circle text, then match to the correct save hack file, finally choose the absolutely correct save slot when in the game  :)

NOW Lets MOD


   1.  Ensure your SD card is formatted as FAT. By default SD cards are formatted as FAT, so if you're not sure you can skip this step.
 
2. (Optional) If you have an existing Zelda save that you want to backup, do so before proceeding:
         A. Put your SD card in your Wii and turn it on.
         B. Go into Wii Options --> Data Management --> Save Data --> Wii
         C. Find your Zelda save, click on it, click "Copy", and click Yes
         D. Put your SD card in your computer, and copy the "private" folder from the card to a safe place.
 
3. Copy the "private" directory from the Twilight Hack download to the root of your SD card.
  
4. Take your homebrew Wii executable (e.g. Homebrew Channel (http://hbc.hackmii.com/download/)) (elf or dol file) and save it in the root directory of your SD card as "boot.elf" or "boot.dol" as appropriate.
 
5. Put your SD card in your Wii and turn it on.
 
6. Go into Wii Options --> Data Management --> Save Data --> Wii.
 
7. Find your Zelda save, click on it, click "Erase", and click Yes.
 
8. Open the SD card and select the "Twilight Hack" save that corresponds to your game region. Note: Some people are having problems with the Wii not "seeing" the save file on the SD card. If you are experiencing this, try setting the archive bit for the data.bin file - in Windows this can be either be done from the file's properties dialog (right click on it in Windows Explorer and check the box) or from the command line using "attrib +a <path to data.bin>". More info at #wiihelp on Efnet.
 
9. Click copy and then yes. Now exit out of the menu.
 
10. If you are using System Menu 3.4, you must immediately put the Twilight Hack to use. Turning off or running some other channel or game will have the System Menu delete the savegame again, and you'll have to start over.
 
11. Insert The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess game disc and run the game.
          * If you have the USA version of the game, load the "TwilightHack0" or "TwilightHack2" version of the game as appropriate (see above).
          * Otherwise, load the only "Twilight Hack" save game.
 
12. Once in the game, either walk backwards or talk to the man standing in front of you.
 
13. Follow the instructions listed on the screen.
 
14. Enjoy

1. do you need to load the Hack every time to Play backups ?

2. I remember when the TW hack first came out you could only play NGC backups and NOT Wii games (has this changed?

3. I seen a lot of Down loads for the Wii Games and know there's Some patched and Some not And from what i know you Need the Patched to work is that True? (if wii games work on it)

4.Is 3.4 the Newest update ? And on top of that What will happen if you Update with the hack on the Wii?

1. NO, theirs a program call Backup Loader .3g for the Wii that you run off the Home Brew Channel and it runs every Wii game and ANY REGION :D

2. Yes, both are playable now

3. Nope, not that i know of. Just burn and run it on Backup Loader or Wii Gator

4. If you update to 3.4 it will delete all your "Other channels" that your not allowed to have with out your consent thanks to Nintendos new policy update

The hack it's self is a Save right? so why would i have to have played the game?

Where i am getting at is I am just going to Rent the game and use it for the Hack then Go from there.

well just so you have the game save on their. Even thought your just going to delete it after words.  so really idk lol just play it, save it, delete it and load up the hack save and mod it thats wat i did lol

just to try it out, geeez what do i look like bill gates. and to answer zzk's patching question. some games do require ppf patches. I had a modded wii (hardmodded) and some games needed to be ppf patched. i think i had a wiikey, it might be different now though

ok snipes, very good, couple things you guys need to know

1 the reason, zzk, that you have to create a save first for zelda is it creates several "hidden" files that you will need

2. if you already have a v3.4 wii you will need TPHack beta2, same rest of guide with one differenece, you have to use the hack immediatly, if you reboot the wii it deletes the file

3. the BEST wii firmware is the 3.2 for homebrew at least

i did some deep studying into this hack and im heavy into wii homebrew currently (hence my abbsence) so if you have ANY questions, PM or start a thread and i can help

SIDE NOTE: with the HBC (HomeBrew Channel) you can use  SDHC cards (32gb cards) i also have been experimenting with booting wii game from SD card (SDHC cards can hold them so im trying) downside, slower than a VW GTI Golf in SanFransisco

EDIT: i will be dropping some RAR's into the file section here of the hack so you can just unzip to your SD card and go, once the HBC is up you will no longer need to ever use TP again... ever

Yea he did the Update like 5 days ago so i am sure it's on 3.4  SO... i'll have no real problem other then I need to Start the Game and Don't restart the Wii then I'll have the Homwbrew channel and it will not get deleted unless i Do a Wii 24 connect or Update "right?" 


just hoping thats all true as i can't keep doing the TW hack as it's Not mine or His game.

yes zzk, you can can do everything you just said, you have the right idea
after getting the homebrew channel i suggest downgrading to 3.2 firmware (or you wont be able to play many or any games) i was going to be writing a tut for that

my wii is currently 3.2 so i have to bump it up to 3.4 and write a guide for downgrading, so its gonna take a while to remove everything homebrew, ETA is still (late) tommorow on the guides

ok i think i need to downgrade before i do anything As when i try doing the cIOS_Installer it just goes to a Black screen.

well i am haveing problems with the Downgrade As i did not know i Need internet to do it SO i am going to use this update-menu-for-ntsc to get to 3.2 as i don't have a way to get Internet right now

OK the Offline downgrade worked BUT i am haveing some problems


1. I have burned like 3 games now and all are getting error 324 

2. i checked and i see i need to Patch them (like i said before LOL) BUT the Wii Burner program is not working right.

the 324 error means you dont have cIOS installed man

IOS36v7 is the latest, install that

PS how did you downgrade offline? better yet, where are those files lol

heres a List of EVERYTHING i have tryed


1. burn at 4x ImgBurn DVD-R

2. Burn at 2x ImgBrun DVD-R

3. Burn at 2x ImgBrun DVD+R

4. Burn at 2x ImgBrun DVD+R + patch with WiiBurner

5. Burn at 2x ImgBrun DVD-R + WIIScrubber

None have worked and all get error 324

ok what game are you trying to play?
and you do have v3.2 installed correct?
have you tried different iso's? (alot get corrupted, go figure)

you need to run WiiUR and IOSPatcher v1.1 (set IOS to 249)
im TRYING to write a guide for this, but youre slowing me down!! lol

PS dont use WiiBurner or scrubber unless EXPLICITLY told to by uploader

yea i am 100% sure i have 3.2  as the icso installer would not load at all on 3.4 and Now it loads fine.

Anyway I tryed the IOSPatcher and set 249 and it said done so i burned it and STILL get error 324

ok well i garuntee you have
1 burned a clean disc and something is amuk with the backup software installation
or
2 have a bad image file

2. have tryed 3 thats 3 .iso games i have download all give the same error.

sorry i was saying that either somethingis wrong with your install of cIOS or the iso was bad

After I did the downgrade I had to do the IOS36-64-v1042.wad  from the Wadmanager  Then do the cIOS Install and BAM game is now working LOL woot

Only problem Not all them work SO i don't know what type this DVD is and How i burned it LOL So it's going to be fun trying to see witch one worked LOL

OK after i got it all work the GameCube game still does not work BUT the New error i get is

Goes to a Color screen then reboots (Gamecube)

the Wii games work fine.

ok here is all you will ever eed to do for a wii game (i think :P)

run IOSPatcher and set IOS to 249 (thats WiiGators IOS)
run WiiUR (thats Wii Update Remover) it makes sure the wii cant update from the disc without changing anyfiles

all games SHOULD work with that

ohh and the GC thing sounds like you need to force NTSC (or PAL if its a PAL game) try some of those settings

i was thinking the same thing with the force PAL as it is a PAL gameCube game But it did not work.

ima guess its a PAL problem, not a GC disc problem

but i would say get it up to 3.2 as version 3.0 is missing alot of cool stuff (like usb keyboard support)

if it was my Wii I would BUT =) it's not and really i don't think there use a USB on this
(hell they never really play it anyway)

yo zzk wat patch did you use to make the 3.4 work

he downgraded to 3.2 with a "restore" disc and used a WAD patch called IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad (or if he didnt he SHOULD have lol)

well I can't say I did

What I did was
Install - IOS30-64-v1040.wad (Must be first) USA WII only
Install - SystemMenu-v289.wad
Install - IOS36-64-v1042.wad

and BAM  down to 3.2  Super fast and easy.

As for the IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad I did not Understand why you would Need that as it works just fine without me installing that

BUT just for the Hell of it I did the IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad   But i don't See a dif.

just so you know BEFORE you update you will have to manually uninstall the cIOS (using the cIOS uninstaller v1.1) and any other homebrew you uninstalled or you could have undesired effects on the wii (you can leave the homebrew channel

Nah i did not fill like updateing so i just did the video without showing the FW it's on as really that does not matter anyway  they can be on 3.0 or 3.3 or 3.4  they will still get to 3.2

Ok i am haveing One Last Small problem  :P

Ok On the first Wii i did every thing worked out fine and when i install .Wad files to the Wii Channel they Load just fine.

Now with this New Wii I am haveing Problems with the .Wads i Install on the Wii channel will not Load, Soon as you Hit start it just does a reset and i am back on the Wii channels  =(

Now before you Start comeing up with what may have gone wrong etc etc  This has been a problem from the start when I installed the TW Hack on 3.0U 

I have Tryed everything I can think of from Installing all the .Wads from
IOS16-64-v257-prod.wad
IOS36-64-v1042.wad
and reinstalled the CIos installer and even tryed Reinstalling  the TW Hack  and Still No channels that I install will load.

Note that everything Loads Fine in the HomeBrew channel  Just not when i install them to the Wii Channel.

you NEED to update to 3.1 for the HBC
at least HBC v1.0.1

the older versions ran on older system menus but the new one uses usb to debug i believe so you need to support usb keyboard which was added in the 3.1 version

if you just have the 3.0 and HBC installed you can safely update to 3.4 and everything should work

and ive been up for 27 hours and i dont know if thats what youwere asking and im to tired to reread your post sorry

EDIT: i reread it anyway, and idk but if you just have hbc update to 3.4 and that should solve your problem (yes everything WILL run on 3.4 as of the past 4 days as far as ive read)

Used the HBC v1.0.1 when i did the TW hack So thats Installed

So are you saying there's a HBC v3.4 ?

Or are you now telling me to Update to 3.4U on the Wii and that will fix it ?

iif you already have the homebrew channel on there
an update to 3.4 WILL NOT affect the HBC and will not brick your system

and should fix your problem

updating to 3.2 will work as well!!

I did Upgrade to 3.2 and did not fix it  Then I tryed to Upgrade to 3.4 and Still did not fix it

I don't know about you BUT I am going to Say Best to Update to 3.4 or 3.3  Before installing TW hack  then do the 3.2 downgrade  as I had problems with 3.0

nah its best to format the wii before an upgrade aimed at using the TP hack

and you also need to uninstall things like the DVDx stub and cIOS before upgrading

if you dont then crazy stuff happends

and upgrading past 3.2 is NEVER a good thing, cuase the 3.3 and 3.4 updates were mainly written to block the TP hack

hey im still having a hell of a time getting to install wads and playing backups on 3.4U. my friend doesnt wanna downgrade. I've placed the HBC on their but i don't wat i need to do next

lol then hes just stupid :P
3.4 and 3.3 where just aimed at blocking the TP hack, all the other featurs remain intact on a downgrade (such as the so called "improved disc read speed" and he can update the wii channel manually

lol yea after fixing this Wii from going to 3.3 to 3.2 to 3.4 then back to 3.2  it's all good LOL (starting to Hate Wiis Again)

im writing a restore program that restores Wii's to "factory" condtition by going directly to the NAND storage and overwriting that with an already know to be clean file system
so far ive had little luck getting my filesystem completely cleaned up, but when i do ill be able to make a Gamez-ALL-IN-ONE softmod for the Wii ;)
came up with the name all by myself!!!

basically then run the TP hack but instead of install the HBC it starts my restore utility and rewrites the entire system (after backing up Mii's save games and the like) with a clean 3.2 system


well thats the end goal at least, for now im just trying to get the NAND writer working

EDIT: yeah... thats not gonna happen, like at all
mabye... but probably not, so ima wait till i find someone else with source code i can use and see if theyll let me, but its a solid theory of softmoding for complete noobs, just pack it up so all they have to do is a simple simple tasks!

I have been following this thread and am running into the same "error 324" problem with my cIOS. 

I have the following files in the "wad" folder on my SD card:
Install - IOS30-64-v1040.wad (Must be first) USA WII only
Install - SystemMenu-v289.wad
Install - IOS36-64-v1042.wad

But now I dont know what to do from here.  Can someone point me in the right direction?!?

After you do all that Just Load the cIOS installer again, It should work after that.

yeah after all that the cIOS install istalls correctly (it wouldnt install before that)

I got it to version 3.2u and went to take a break.  My gf wanted to play the wii fit and when i put in the dvd it told me i needed to update the system in order to play the game....ggrr!?!  SO now im at 3.3u and dont know what to do....

ohh and my computer stopped reading SD card...that or my reader went bad :-/

the difference between 3.3 and 3.2 is minuet, and SHOULDNT (dont quote me) affect installing the cIOS but you need to install the cIOS again, and then you shouldnt get any errors

Side Note: to get around the update for the actually game you might be able to use the backup launcher. MABYE, havent tried it

I MOD'D IT BACK TO 3.2u and I am still getting DVD rear error 324...What program are you using to load your disks?  I assume that you have to go into HB and then the boot program to run.  anyone have a link for that?

I have tried "backup launcher: and i get the 324 error and I try Wii game load "LIBWiiGameLoad" and it freezes my system,

have you tried more than more discs?

try burning a game from your region at 2x and see if backup launcher plays it

Thats an idea....however I have a mac (powerbook G4 17" 1.5GHz) and I'm limited to the programs that I can use to burn with.  Toast doesn't do ANYTHING for me and my Disk Utility SOMETIMES works.  I spend over 8 hrs trying to get my DVD drive to even recognize the fact that I put a blank DVD in it.  I give my laptop a nice smack and it works...i think my drive is going out.

I would get that same error until i used the cIOS installer, and then it was all good with Backup Channel and everything else

Thats the thing tho, I have done the ISO installer and still get that error.  I went here and followed these directions and got everything to load without freezing the Wii.  Chat channel do you use to load your wii backup games?  the "Backup Launcher"?

yea well i cant say that the disc is the problem, but the Wii is very iffy as to what it will and wont read, good chance your disc is just not burned the best

get a burn you KNOW is good (good iso, burned at 2x) and if you still have the error let me know

ohh man!!! I did the cIOS installer again and the the booter and the game works...kinda!  It all black and white and doesnt fit on the screen really well....

may be a pal game :X lol but its a start man dont give up ;D

sounds like the disc to me, is it the right region? is the video mode right? is the disc good?

Well I'm not back to square 1, kinda, as wii sports works for my but now wii fit's disk isnt recognized at all...grr this whole thing is extremely frustrating!

could be because it needs a patch dude, its a new game along with security updates aka 3.3U remember when it told you to update hahaha Nintendo a di©k

Try launching it though Backup Loader, maybe that'll work i think :-\

Yeah I tried launching it through Backup Loader but it didnt work, gave me the error again...

this is what i do

1. Only Burn NTSC  as PAL games are just to damn buggy when trying to force NTSC

2. make sure Before Burning the game you Use the IOSPatcher.exe and WiiUR_v1.0.exe When you Do the IOSPatcher.exe Set 249  (works every Time)

3. make sure to Burn at about 4x  I have Done 8x as well and that works good to.

No I dont.  I just moved to a new state and dont know anyone.  I did burn "cooking mama" today and it worked for a few mins then when i went to play the game it stopped working and the Wii told me to eject the disk and restart.  now i cant get the game to load.  I can see the channel of it there tho...

I finally got most eveything working!  Now the problem I am running into is with PAL games.  when I load them with the backup channel they play but are in black and white.  any way to fix that?  Do i need to open them in a different backup loader?

EDIT: nevermind, i didnt force NTSC  i was forcing PAL....

why people insit on using pal games is beyond me
i only use NTSC games for the sole reason that the make the games for BOTH REGIONS
why not use the one native to your region?

yea i only Use NTSC  as Pal never really works all the time.

every NTSC game i have burned Works 100%

Im getting the pal ones as I cant find the NTSC version...
