½ Red ½ Green Xbox Power LED

This is probably the simplest thing you can do involving LED’s. It’s a simple mod that makes half of your power LED red and the other half the normal green color. Even though this is a very simple mod that anyone can do I will not take any responsibility if your fubar your Xbox. So if you don’t think you can do this stop reading this now!

Let’s begin..

Step 1: Open your Xbox Visit zzk’s video here for help on doing that.

Step 2: Remove the HDD drive so that you have access to the right side of the motherboard and the power supply.

Step 3: You will now see a yellow cable running from the front of the Xbox to the motherboard as seen in this picture. (Note: Your Xbox might not look the same as the one in the picture. It all depends on what version your Xbox is.)

Step 4: Once you have found the yellow cable disconnect it from the motherboard and separate the two layers of yellow wires from each other so that you have easy access.

Step 5: Now you will begin switching wires. You can tell which number the wires are by the following picture. On the side with all the slots filled is the side that has the arrow pointing up to #1. You will need to count 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 then on the other side you will count 2, 4, 6, 8. It can be very confusing but if you look at the picture below you will be able to understand it.

Step 6: Now you will need to pull out wires # 7 and # 8 and switch them. That means take wire 7 and switch it with 8. To pull the wires out you will need a small flat-head screwdriver to pry the white plastic away from the metal head of the wire so that you can pull it out.

Step 7: Once you have them switched make sure that you push the white plastic back in place so that the wires won’t slip out too easily. Then plug the yellow cable back into the Xbox as seen in in the picture under step 3. Make sure that you plugged it in where the side that’s missing a wire is in the correct corresponding spot.

Step 8: Power on the Xbox and the power LED should now be ½ Red and ½ Green. If not then you made a mistake somewhere and you will need to go get help in our forums at www.smdepot.net/forum or you will need to visit the chat IRC channel #smdepot or www.smdepot.net/chat.html
