excellent, if i havent said it b4, u guys rock. ill try the coldboot n let u know how it goes.

ok so i tried loading up SC and it booted fine but the game save is apparently deleted, so i couldnt run linux. im gonna go out and get some disks and ill try to boot up the SMD Autoinstaller, hopefully, itll give me another try.

I am guessing that you chose the Re-Build HD which is a Chip only function. I highly doubt that the Auto-Installer will boot because you don't have the Xbox booting up UnleashX to allow it to load backups.
If it doesn't then the only option you have is to use XboxHDM.

ok, ill try the disk anyways, then of course if it doesnt work, ill do the XBOXHDM thing. just a concern, generally, what does the HDM method entail? i know u gotta open up ur XB, but do i also have to take apart my COMP. just so that i know... thanks.

hey thanks guys very much for all of ur help. i ended up using Slayer's AI 2.7 and guess what, my Xb booted the disk. from then on i went onto formatting the XB to retail settings and im softmodding it now. so my baby is back in working condition. thanks again.

EDIT!!!
at least i thot it was fine. anyways i run thru the softmodding process to the T (xcept 4 backin up cuz i already did that) n wen i reboot i get this stupid ERROR 13. arg im out of ideas. pls help. thnx.

sweet thanks a lot. im trying to find a converter cable so that i can connect the IDE XB HDD to my SATA laptop slot, then id be able to restore the HDD.
