you will need the following:
multimeter
tiny flathead screwdriver

once youve taken the dvdrom out of the xbox.
remove the screws that hold the dvdrom case together and remove the case.
pull the ribbon on the side of the board out as well as the ribbon from the laser.
fold it down and you'll see 2 small adjustable silver knobs.
take the multimeter and set it to 2k ohms
now if you are looking down on top of the dvdrom from the back, the knob on the right has 2 solder points on the bottom. use one of the leads and hold it to that point.
take the other lead and touch on top of the knob.
a good reading lens should be between 3.2 and 2.8
I prefer 3.0 as it is in the midrange.
anything lower thatn 2.8 will burn up your lens.
with the screwdriver turn the knob very slightly and check the ohms again
do this untill you reach the ohm level you like.
when your doen put it back together and try your games out.

What is this for? is this for weak DVD drives on the 360? Does it increase load speed?

All in all, it was a good day. Especially considering I didn't even have to use my AK.

pot leveling is used when your dvd drive stops reading games.
it adjusts the power of the laser basically.

so if you seem to be always cleaning your games because a light fingerprint is making unreadable.
this will fix that.

Yeah the only reason it's in pieces is because i took a bat to it i was pissed cause it was only like 4-5 months old. I told him just to keep the parts he wanted. that were left lol.
