maybe your firewall is blocking java
an easy fix is to download mirc at www.mirc.com
once you install mirc you can find us on "EFNET" server and "softmods" is the room name.

download mIRC from www.mirc.com then open it up put in your name,email,nickname. then hit enter.

then type this: /server irc.easynews.com

then once it's connected type this: /join #softmods

pretty simple
