I'm planning to purchase a broken xbox with a burned out harddrive is there a way to fix it? I know I need another hard drive, how would I fix the problem, without the eeprom? and without buying a modchip?

Well you could use any Hard drive and then use it on the xbox. But you would need to build an eeprom reader to read the eeprom.bin off a chip on the xbox motherboard with a program called Ponyprog and then use Liveinfo Beta 3 to check the serial number from the read and see if it matches the xbox serial number, and if they do you're all good to go Grin

I have my own eeprom reader and fixed my xbox like that, and my xbox was dead for 2yrs and i brought it back to life hhaha now its a cool media center Cheesy

ether way the hotswap wouldn't have done anything cause the Hard drive for burned out, like i said you still have an xbox as long as you get your hands on an eeprom reader or buy one off ebay

you can do a search on ebay for an EEPROM reader they sell them for like 15 dollars if you dont want to build one, but you still have to solder it to the chip
