wow,

i had an old  pc lying around... upgraded a few things on it... tried to install xp but it had supposed hardware problems and crashed all the time. i saw this guy using a knoppix live cd at school to mess with the network so i got a copy and it works flawlessly.

now i wanna try install linux properly. what distros do you guys use? im wanting user friendlyness and simplicity above all... so im thinking xandros or SUSE. but always open to better suggestions.

also just showing my face... i still read the forum and reply to all personal messages wanting help.

roooooooooooxanne.

The easiest Linux distro's i've seen are Redhat and Fedora Core. All of which are free (god i love open source) I persnonally use Gentoo, which isn't a friendly installation if you have zero linux experience, or even basic linux experience, but Its a good one too. Free BSD is probably 3 rd on the list of easierst. Buts its not really linux... technically. Anyway enjoy. If you need help with setup, let me know. I've done it enought time w/ several distros to do it again. Also check out vmware virtual work station if you want linux but dont' have an extra pc laying around. Very cool. Peace

aah ok i saw that redhat fedora core was the most popular but for some reason chose SuSE. installing now, its all straightforward... except its a 5-CD install and i am doing it on 3 rewriteable CDs. oh yeah and KDE or GNOME?? i went with KDE because i have used it on Knoppix. Hopefully i can change it once its installed?

[edit] ok nvm, i have found my answere here: http://www.illusionary.com/GNOMEvKDE.html

I know with the more current versions you can full screen by one of the buttons above. and with a keyboard shortcut. cntrl alt enter or alt enter. I havn't used it in ages though. Should work.

Trust me even if you did know
the packages are not always there, I'm saying this in a laptops point of view,
the PC drivers might be easy to find, i guess.. but on a laptop they get a tiny bit complicated.
