ˈlɪnəks (leenucks) or ˈlaɪnəks (lienucks)? Haahahah i'm not expecting many replies. Linus pronouncs it ˈlɪnəks (linux with the short i sounds) and you can hear him say it! It was originally created by a Linus Torvalds it is also pronounced "ly-nux" so either way chief. I just say linux. "linix" because its based on unix.

I guess because Torvalds developed Linux to replace Minix and Linus + Minix = linix pronounciation of linux. and hell all the vowels are short in sweden, if you know what i mean *nudgey nudgey*. THEN AGAIN, note from my sonds byte that he pronounces his name Lee-nus instead of the even more lame Lie-nus. If people starting pronouncing it lie - nux he would be out of a sound byte career.
