Title: Connecting XBOX to Vista (Last Question)
Post by: jjv3131 on January 01, 2009, 03:25:26 AM
Lol, yeah I know I have posted a lot of questions but this is the last one. I Promise.

When I connect the XBOX to ftp files using Vista. Vista doesn't recognize it. With the XBOX turned on the Local Area Connection it says that a cable is unplugged. I used my cousins computer which is XP to ftp instead. But I want to use my Vista.

Any help? I would really appreciate it!

Make sure you are using a Crossover cable. If your not sure what that is, you'll have to connect the Xbox to a routing device, and the routing device to your PC. Simple enough.

A+ cert is a Legit way to show your experience. Recommended if not required for most tech positions.

Anywayz, I agree flash fxp is a great way to transfer files. I prefer using a router or wireless router.
Xbox plugged into one port, and pc plugged into another port. Or one for xbox and access the router over the wifi.

Most routers have a DNS client table that will tell you which device is on which IP.
You probebly wont see a name for the xbox, just an indication that that address as been assigned to a device.
You will on the other hand see the PC name next to its assigned address.
For example:
192.168.1.100 - PC
192.168.1.101 - XBOX

**You don't need to have router connected to the internet to do this.**
I use an different router for my xbox than my internet.
Just disconnect the connection to you internet router, and connect to the xbox router.
Unless the router is reset the xbox will keep the assigned address.
FlashFXP lets you bookmark the address, and passwords.

Hope that helps.
Let me know if you need any more help..
