Softmod Depot

Post your new ideas, comments or thoughts here of what should become of the hopefully new Smdepot to come  ;D

Here are some examples:
-more tutorials about the 360, Sony Products, Nintendo products, etc
-Keep up with the News
-updating and reorganizing files
-new look for Smdepot

I personally think we should broaden our horizon. I think we should help with more then just consoles and pc's our off topic section is by far our biggest section, i believe having our forums setup to a setting like this will be better for atleast now:

Thats just a generalization on how we should redo things, other sites have began to stretch out to its users and not just be about consoles and pcs anymore. I love the way the site looks now, its the best its looked, but i think we also need a more general theme for the site, the site  have a xbox theme to it, and that is not what this site is just about anymore.

i think we should be able to choose a theme, as an option
as far as the tutorial section goes, all of the tutorials currently in place have become somewhat outdated, or they have been refined ways to make it easier to do, and GRAMMAR should be more forced (lol zzk) so we can rewrite the old tuts to be more accurate and grammatically correct.

i have several that are already on this site that i know of that can be added
- Using the Wiimote on PC
- Softmod PS2 (its old but it WORKS)
and a few more i can find if i look

and if anything we can rip tutorials from other sites giving them full credit until we have tried it to write our own tutorial of that topic

PS SMD is supposed to grant me access to the tutorial section, but its easier said than done i guess, plus i havent really been pressuring him...... WELL BRING ON THE HEAT!!!!

How about uploading movies:). I have about 250 movies, and I could upload 2-3 a week or something? Anyone interested?

yeah thats a little to much on the illegal side.. lol
actually SMD just doesnt have the bandwidth for it (it cost alot of money ya know)
i think we should stay away from uploading media thats copyrighted, this place will get shut down (i know from exp.) but great idea

not uploading to the smd site, but through gmail, i could give out passwords, and usernames and people could download away?
Its a 500gb hard drive, I still have about 60 gigs left. It will cost about $300 lol just jokin

What we need is updated tuts, more files on the file section, and more news on other consoles. This is Softmod Depot.... not xbox softmod depot. Now, i would ahve been posting news, but for some reason, my account doesnt log in anymore. another big thing is getting out in the internet. Youtube is seemingly where everyone that knows this site comes from, but we need more people from other places. Sooner or later, I see this place as how afterdawn is now.

well mainly the ppl who watch my youtube videos come here as i tell them all to go to smdepot.net =)

Any way I can't Make 360 modding videos as i don't have One and thats really the #1 question i get asked IS how do i mod my 360 etc etc BUT i don't have one.

360 doesnt have a softmod does it?
if it doesnt then its not in our field yet.

you have ot take the thing apart to flash it as well, kinda hard to take the 360 apart with software.

1. to siwtch out the HDD in a Xbox 1 you need to open it.

2. flashing is More on the Software site then anything, Yea you got to open it BUT that just a Small thing to getting a 360 hacked.

3. for Me a Hard mod is Only Where you Must install a Modchip, But i guess that was just Me

4. Anyway WHO says we need to Stay within just softmoding  I mean come on this should be just a Modding site  not Just a Softmod only Site.

This is just me but we should make this kinda like a myspace  but for like modders and people who want to learn about modding with like the ability to upload vids and watch em like youtube and such but like you can make different sections for the vids like and stuff,Their would be like different sections and stuff too like there would be vids and sub category's for like 360,ps3,pc,funny, etc etc and like yeah I dunno thats just my idea.

oh an I know a lot of you will disagree with me on this but I think you should make it kind of windows vista like, like I mean with the glassiness and see through colors and stuff.

Most definitly we need a new layout look though.

PS zzk a softmod is when you dont have to open anything, where its completely software
i.e. The TP hack for the Wii, you dont open it
you also dont HAVE to open the xbox 1, and when you switch out the hdd its a hardmod at that point, and we dont have to stick to softmods, but i was asking for one on the 360, which there isnt one, which is what i thought

i still say it's a Softmod but whatever  :-\

I don't think a Myspace type thing would be good as it Be hard to Answer all the problems as if they make a Bad tut or video  we would end up haveing to fix what that person messed up =/

Oooohh I just came up with an Idea what if like the home page was like the new windows OS the windows 7 or whatever. like make a big orb that changes logos from like 360 to ps3 to wii and stuff and like on the edges would be tabs kinda like the windows media player orb and each tab would be colored to each system like the 360 would be green the wii would be like blue of white etc etc and when you go over that tab it highlights brighter and the center turns to the logo of that system that is highlighted and when you click that tab it pops a list out that has links to tuts,vids,apps,etc etc.

I think that would be really cool =]

Ha ha ha yeah I unfortunately don't know how to program one bit =/ but I think this is just about the best idea I've ever come up with =D but instead of it shifting pics when it's neutral how about we like make a logo for the site instead of just the 360 logo and put it in the center and like kinda make it glow like a pulsating glow not fast but nice and slow but like not too slow =]

Well in my opinion I think we should start with looks because people like a cool looking site. It would attract more people that know who knows what and such. I mean they could know how to remove governors on vehicles and stuff. and you know the possibilities are endless. I mean this is a modding site why don't we use it to it's full capabilities instead of just limiting it to game consoles and computers. I mean you can modify anything now a days.So why don't we show the people that.

Why does it just have to be all about softmods? I mean I realize that thats what the site is called but how about Hard mods too I mean people aren't only looking for soft mods. Why don't we make this a find it all site from modding your game console to modding your toaster? Why restrict?

Well you're going to need something new to show people, agreeing on what needs to be done is only half the fight. If you all agree you need to start softmodding some new console, then someone is actually going to have to do the work and get it modded.

im actually toying with my own site, i bought the domain and its actually up and running but im not sure im ready for a full fledged site yet
and unless this one picks up ill probably leave

i love this site cuasei learned alot of xbox modding from here (i knew it before but dropped outa the scene before Krayzie NDure softmod) but i can just post what i know elsewhere when i can change it

SMD kinda stopped looking at this site, dont blame him either when you dont mod anything

well ive benn thinking and like a lot of people say no new mods but im working as fast as i can to come up with some stuff but nothing yet. :-\

hmmm well I'm in a 3D animation class and were using programs like Maya and stuff *mumbles to self unfortunately they're on macs* but that's neither here nor there lol umm any who I'll try to download it to my computer so I can get even more familiar with it and try to design something with it for the site or something I dunno.

i dont like Apple, really at all
but i will give it this, for animation and art MAC computer take the cake hands down any day of the week

for 3d animation like maya and 3ds max, its all about windows though. ive always wanted to design a engine in cad, maybe i can do that and keep updates here. as of right now, im not in any place to do anything, im in a transition in my life. I might be selling my computer so i can get a laptop soon so i can be mobile instead of stuck at home on my pc.

i have to admit i like 3dsmax, its how i first go into animation and modding for that matter

I most definitely second that, I was checking out there laptops and the cheapest was like $1200 I mean you could get an Alienware laptop for cheapest I've seen was like $800 and that's just with basic stuff. apple laptops you can't even customize they prebuild them for you and there is like only 3 different laptops the air,the standard and the pro it's a bunch of B.S. I say.

well if i ever use a mac ill put linux on it

You're very much welcome =] I'm sure there would be a way to make it into a flash. It might take a while but then again I'm not all that sure because I've never worked with flash  :-\  Maybe we can get somebody or a few people to help out on this well I guess you could say little project lol

oh i already made it into a flash, but i couldnt get the buttons to look quite right
so i just made seperate buttons that link to the different frames from the gif you uploaded, worked the same

Alright in our file section i made a new folder (called "New Webpage Testing") and i uploaded the flash
i suggest we keep downloads to a minimum for bandwidth reasons (its only 80k though) so just download it once

i was going to photobucket it but i cant upload swf files anymore, bummer

anyway check it out in the file section youll see what i mean

like at all
so i built the 2 of the flash series, youll notice the buttons are gone you can now click the tb (sort of) snipes ill have to get with you to coordinate colors, ill tell you what i need (i suck at drawing even in photoshop)

EDIT just so you know, the buttons seem "discolored" thats because of the picture, and can be fixed
quite easily actually

InsaneTrout i see wat your saying, but people need to see the taps
So lets animate it (if possible)
to where when you click the PS3 Tap
it slides over to the Xbox360 position (90°)
while the other taps slide down and disappears/fades out
Then the Flash takes you to the PS3 Section in a cool way  ;D

and dido for the Wii tap

well for one, we dont need more than 3 tabs right now, testing always needs to stay simple in my opinion. Once we get the anim. down THEN we add more tabs, 3 will give us a great feel for the way it is supposed to work

insane trout, i see what you are saying about the tabs on the inside but i dont think that will work, as far as the other thing i didnt really understand it at all, sorry try to explain it more please

snipes as far as depth yeah sure, do whatever you want artistically i can just replace it in flash after you change a picture you know?

also i dont use photoshop becuase i really dislike adobe, but they have the only good flash creater, i use GIMP its freeware and i can open edit and save PSD files along with a great many other ones, i like it better but it is different, i needed to recreate an orb from scratch so here is mine (not tabs, ill be adding those in flash)

the artifacts (looks like bad lighting) is a result of the gif format and flash will not have that problem

one thing we need to talk about is what are the tabs going to entail? will we have information on them with a like to the forum? what are we thinking here?

One last thing, any programmer knows that consistency matters, so from here on out the game systems will be called (and yes capitalization matters):

PS3
Wii
Xbox360 (no spacing)

keep the names the same on everything (including psd's and other things) if someone would like to change the names for some odd reason we can, otherwise lets call them that

EDIT: Snipes, i just got what you were saying about teh PS3 tab thing! i actually had a VERY similar idea, in my idea the tabs were all just white (because somethings like computers and N64 have no color scheme to compliment them) and the tabs werent "attached" to the sphere the simply could spin freely behind it, ill try to make a prototype to show you what i mean, but honestly i dont know which is would be easier, flash or java, mabye ill so a combo of both

and snipes its a tab just so you know ;) :P

Alright i upped a new flash to the usual, its Test3
this one looks horribly ugly but thats cuase i created it entirely in flash, the other was a picture which i cant really work with
in any case tell me if it functions right, this is actually a big step for me cuase its my first from scratch no help flash, and again the niceness can be added in later, we need to key in on the functionality right now

and snipes keep those images coming, cuase im basically just turning what YOU draw into flash

currently im having a problem porting the imges with "blank" space into flash, otherwise i would have dropped in the logos

like the Wii logo, it has all that "blank space" in the square you know? when i drop it in flash it appears with blankness filling that blank area, which wont do

snipes for some help, you could tell me where you got the logos, i have an idea for a work around

ok the idea i had was for the rss feed, have it scrolling across the bottom or top of the screen (which is fairly easy to do) and have it pop up with the RSS button possibly
id like to be able to have the option of pulling from other feeds as well, have an option of a few to choose from

i like having the vids up in the corner HOWEVER, i was thinking of making a seperate page so i can have a rolling text file to match the video (of course that is if the video maker *cough*zzk*cough* is willing to write one) so as he is preforming a step it would be highlighted on the screen

we probably should save some space for ads, just cuase he has them here already, you know how it is

but in any case we can figure it out later

im getting along well with animation, i think i am at least
i have been able to stack the tabs and have them come to the front when selected, one of my original main goals, so thats good, ill probably post a new swf later tonight

alright this flash stuff is outa my league, what i want to do can be done in AS2 but i need to learn AS3,so im going to get some books and read up on AS3 and ill post  back when i start up again, until then this is project can be headed up by someone else

yeah im working on something for my own site, alot less of an undertaking
its a media player, current to stream movies, ill send you a link later

current i have Play, Pause, Stop, Mute, Volume Slider, and im working on the seek slider right now
ill be making a DIR list so i can just find music, this way i can embed it into a webpage!

Well my little project is coming along! i current have it reading the ID3 tags of the MP3's themselves, and im working on making a byteArray to get the picture out of the mp3 if one is embeded

i plan on hosting this on my site so i can stream my music everywhere (i can load it onto my phone, how sweet is that!)

lol that IS if you have internet access, this file is a .swf so browsers know how to open it
your phone would to if you install flash player mobile ;)

but i actually ported it to my phone, i have an AT&T tilt and its dual booting windows mobile and a distro of linux and i got it to work on firefox in linux

(my phone has a dualcore 400mhzprocessor 8))

A section to keep an eye out for is the Herald ROM Development (you can find a link on the page) i have the Tilt which was garbage until i flashed a new WM6.1 rom onto it, now its great, while your phone is still without a linux port give it time and it will get one

I can't wait for the WM6.1 for my wing =D I have the Poorduckys vista theme on my phone. I don't trust the fake roms that are out there something could go wrong and then I have a useless $428 phone lol so I'm just waiting for the original because it'll Have the my favs app.

I had a HTC wizard (Cingular 8125) for a long time. i was going to get the Tilt when mine broke, but I got talked into an iphone. I miss the real keyboard of the HTC products but have to say the iphone is pretty sexy. The keyboard works well enough (being digital) and I can SSH into my servers and screw something up if I want which is a huge selling point.

I jailbroke mine and it's been awesome!

As for me working on new Videos It's kind of Hard when i have No money for the 360 to do a Video for it And the PSP i have Done to much on that (Well i think i have)  the PS3 is well never going to get Hacked (There i said it Happy)   :P and i don't have a Wii as i hate that thing lol

I could and I say COULD... do Video NEWS updates that way we can have Txt News and Video News, kind of Like a Weekly Thing have a New Video NEWs out every Week, And not Just Me doing it Maybe have some of you guy step up =)

as for hacking well, idk none of the NEW GEN Systems(Wii, PS3, and Xbox360) have gotten fully hacked  :-\

yeah zzk it was doing that to me alot in the past so now i use the recent (http://www.smdepot.net/forum/index.php?action=recent) feature to make sure i dont miss anything

or you could use the home website to check. It has never ever worked for me :(
