Title: Issue connect my XBOX to my PC
Post by: dazzle on February 24, 2008, 12:04:19 PM
I am new at this.  I have a soft modded xbox and I want to connect it to my PC to stream files.  I am currently running XP on my computer and have two accounts set up on the computer.  I am connecting to the XBOX via my linksys router.  I have a network set up on the computer and have designated certain folders as shared.  My IP on the router is the standard 192.168.1.1 and I got the computer IP frm IPchicken.  When I go to the xbox I load in the IP from IP chicken, the xbox pulls the network IP as 192.168.1.106 (I thought it would pull 192.168.1.101, I am able to ping 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.106 but not 192.1681.102 to 192.168.1.105).  When I go to video, add source, browse, add network location, browse, the xbox doesn't find any shared folders.

I do the exact same steps with a different computer running xp but only has one user and the xbox is able to find the shared folders.  I don't want to use this older computer because it is slow and has a very small drive.

does anyone have any suggestions what I am doing wrong and how to correct my sistuation.  Any and all help is appreciated.

the computer IP is not the same IP you got from ipchicken for one thing
goto control panel>network conections> find your connection and right click and hit status
you can get your computer IP from there

next you may want to goto the network setup wizard in the control panel again
this is an easy way to fix any networking troubles that may have arrived, just run back through the wizard then try the xbox again

alternately: goto IE and type ftp:\\xbox:xbox@192.168.1.106:21 into the address bar and see if you can access the xbox, you should be able to

I was able to FTP into the xbox, but I am unable to go from the xbox to the computer to find the files.

then

1. your XBMC is to old

2. try changeing to the MC360 skin (as it's the only skin i use and know really good)

I am able to connect the xbox to my older computer, but not with my newer computer.  Both are running windows XP.

Then its the firewall on your newer pc that is blocking it more then likely.

I tried turning the firewall off, no luck.

Title: XP Connection

When connecting your XBOX to your computer is there a difference if you are using XP Home vs XP Professional?  Reason I am asking I can connect to my computer running XP Professional but not to my computer running XP Home.

No, their is no difference, because I'm running Xp Home and my Xbox connects just fine through my dual Ethernet Cards. One for the Internet and the other one just for my xbox. Check your settings and fire walls, and see if their not letting other computers connect.

Did you go into task manager and disable it? Or did you just disable it?

I disabled it through the control panel

By doing that, all it probably does now is allow all access through your http ports but still has everything else on lockdown (like your xbox). You have to disable the task in the task manager "ctrl+alt+delete"

anything that has to pertain to your firewall anti virus software. it might be abbreviated.
