From what I read, the drives are locked to the 360 somehow. Not like with the eeprom on the old xbox but there was some specific thing about it. I'll post more info tomorrow about it.

they are sort of locked, but its possible to add a bigger one to the 360. but be warned, you have the chance of being banned form xbl if you add a bigger hdd your self. i would just use a external portable drive.

I spent the money on the lame 120 gig because mine was effed. It came with the transfer cord thing. I wonder if that can be used for anything. I tried hooking it up to my PC with the 20 GB drive but it didn't even read.

I also tried plugging the 20 gig HDD in my PC via sata but the only thing it would do was pick up the drive. I couldn't even get xplorer360 to read it.

Edit: Considering they ban for people using custom fans, I can only imagine they would detect that the drive isn't official. Which also brings up the question of whether they're allowed to ban you from live for using third party hardware, such as a hard drive.

Live is a service, they can BAN you for anything, if you agreed to the thing when you signed up (which you would have to have done) so yeah, they can

I agree about that, but I mean, there were people trying to sue them over bundling IE with Windows. I figured some douche some where would kick up a stink about it, something about anti-trust or some other stupid thing they usually call them on. I still think it's a dick move though, not to allow third party hardware. Because my 360 sounds like a god damned spaceship is taking off every time I play a game
