you need to install a app called dvd dongle free.
it'll let you play dvd's and with out the $30 remote.

about your CD reading issue,
only samsung DVDROMS read CD's and DVD's
you have a phillips or thompson dvdrom.

OK you net to go to your network and settings and set your IP to static or DCHP, it really dont matter as long as you write down the right ip on the screen. But i want you to try something for me, go to System-->Settings-->Network and check to see if you have a connection with where you'll "Link Statues" on the left hand side, it should say 100Mbps/Full Duplex if you have link to your computer and if you do then it must mean that theirs something wrong on the computers end and you have to check that your self. And i hope your using FlashFXP to ftp over to your xbox its much easier ;)

The file for the dongle free player is really Dvdx.rar in the Apps folder for the xbox and just drop it in the E:/Apps or F:/Apps you can edit the source by hitting the Start button while highlighting the Launch DVD option

hope this helps ;D

You gotta make sure u have the right user name and password. if ur using UnleashX as your Dash, the user name and password is, xbox and xbox, respectively. Also make sure ur on the right port.... which is usually Port 21.

I had problems with ftp also when i first started getting into the scene, and thats one reason why i ended up here. click "Start" then click "run" then type "cmd" then hit enter. in the command prompt window that just popped up type "ipconfig" and hit enter, you should see somthing like this
Code:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

E:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

        Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected

Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.5
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

all you have to worry about is the IP Address. you will need to change your xbox's ip to almost match your pc's ip. for instance, my pc's ip is 192.168.1.5 so i should make my xbox ip like 192.168.1.6 or so on just changeing the last # of the ip.

i have checked that and it is ok ;)

another question, is there any program i should use to burn a data-dvd whith programs and apps an so on??
would like to have folders on a dvd just ro transfer from dvdplayer to my xbox?

well if its like xbox apps, it needs to be a .xiso . you can check the files section for quix, it is a pc app that will make a .xiso for you, then you can use nero or alchol 120% or any other image burner to burn the .xiso to a disc.

.xiso

thats what confuses people. the extension is .iso but people call it an xiso even though it is just a regular iso.

i think the word .xiso shud be banished from the xbox modding scene because it is a regular iso but it is a different FILE SYSTEM, the IMAGE is the same as a regular iso.

call it a fat-x iso or an xbox iso but not .xiso

also, primus kick ass :P

name your iso .xiso and it will still work :)

*name

not all programs will recignise them straight away and thats why people wonder why there 'xiso' programs dont give them an .XISO .

just call it an 'iso of [whatever]'
